So What Exactly Is MMA Anyway?
MMA is a combination of martial arts. And just like our state – you get some flavors from all over the world.
You’ll get the grappling of Jiu Jitsu. You get the striking of Muay Thai… You get the throwing and submission techniques of Judo… And good ole wrestling tactics.
It’s what happens when someone seeks out the perfect form of martial arts. Because whether you’re on your feet, tangled up with someone else, or even on your back – you’ll know exactly what to do. It’s flawless defense, and vicious offense.
What isn’t MMA?
First off, it’s not “dirty” fighting. It is not hostile. It’s clean, and it’s safe. Secondly, it’s not going to the gym to get your butt kicked every day. You’re going to be partnered up with others at your level, so you can learn and grow. You can go at whatever pace is comfortable.
It doesn’t even have to be super competitive. Some students come train because they want to compete in competitions… but you certainly don’t have to. You can just gear up for a great workout. We have a great mix of both.
And it’s not one of these “tough guy” competitions where everyone’s trying to out-do one another and calling eachother “wusses”. A mindset like that can lead to injury – and it makes it NOT fun. We’re all about fun here! That’s why our environment isn’t competitive – it’s supportive, encouraging.
Basically, MMA is a fun way for anyone to get in great shape, learn self-defense, and form bonds with fellow students as they train to become not just better athletes – but better people. At least that’s how we feel about it. Not every gym sees it this way, but that’s what makes us unique.
